Community Design

Description: Understanding La Perla meant figuring out how we can give the people of this community a stable foundation to thrive safety-wise and financially. Through research, we understood that flooding would have to be addressed first to be able to work in the area positively. Here, you will see some of our initial thoughts on what could help lessen the impact of hurricanes and other natural phenomena. We also start detailing how our Proposed boardwalk design will have a foresight into the future by accounting for sea-level rise in the next 100 years.

Our Final vision of La Perla involves many recreational spaces and Financial opportunities that will hopefully lead to creating a sustainable lifestyle for all current and new residents. The boardwalk includes three independent piers that will act out different functions, thus allowing the intervention in many ways to attract visitors. With our Boardwalk Intervention, we’ve not only focused on the human scale but also aimed to enable local sea life to flourish with the incorporation of eco-friendly wall features that will allow for the restoration of coral and marine habitats.
